This is a typical Mauritian snack made with soaked & finely crushed gram dhall, onions, shallots, mint leaves, green chillies & salt. All the ingredients are mixed together & formed into tiny balls. These are then deep fried until golden .
250g dhall (split peas) soak in cold water for about 3 hours
3 green chillies, finely chopped
2 tbsp each finely chopped mint leaves , coriander leaves & spring onions
1 large onion, finely chopped
1/2 tsp cumin powder
oil for deep frying
1) Drain split peas & blend in a blender till fine but not too fine consistency.
2) Add the rest of the ingredients & mix well.
3) Shape into small balls & deep fry in hot oil until golden in color.
4) Drain & place over kitchen paper to absorb excess oil. Serve warm.
